Raw Honey Can Cure Acne

Acne is a common skin condition that affects numerous people. It is caused by hair follicles that get plugged with dead skin cells and oil. Worse still, it can lead to pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads.

Acne is most often seen on the forehead, face, upper back, shoulders, and sometimes on the chest. There are some people who’re more prone to developing the condition than others. Dietary changes help with reducing acne, as well as certain over-the-counter prescriptions. But if you’re looking for a natural remedy that can effectively get rid of it, there’s nothing like raw honey.

As the name suggests, raw honey is honey obtained straight from the hive. It could be sourced by straining, settling, or extraction. Unlike honey sold in the market under labels like “pure” and “pasteurized,” raw honey is never heated over 105 degrees and is free from added sweeteners or chemicals.

Raw honey is made up of finer crystals than one that’s been heated, pasteurized, or filtered. The advantage of raw honey is that it bears several health benefits that are otherwise nullified in its pasteurized or filtered counterpart. It is a rich source of flavonoids (antioxidants), minerals, amino acids, vitamins, and protective enzymes.

Only unfiltered and natural honey have the mentioned benefits – honey that is not touched by industrial process and its’ essence not killed by pasteurization!

Raw honey to prevent breakouts

Prevention is better than cure. So, if you wish to prevent a breakout of acne, raw honey can be used as a cleanser in your regular skincare routine. The antifungal and antibacterial properties of this wonder liquid will ensure your skin is clean and clear.

Consuming a teaspoon of raw honey in a glass of warm water every morning can help prevent breakouts too.

If you already suffer from a breakout of acne, you can still benefit immensely from using raw honey. Simply apply a bit of it to the affected area. Studies have shown that raw honey can retard the growth of S. Aureus and Propionibacterium acnes and proactively help in blackhead removal.

How to get rid of acne with raw honey

  1. Mix a teaspoon of cinnamon powder with honey and apply it to the affected region as a spot treatment. A small amount of skin irritation is normal as cinnamon can cause slight discomfort. Do a patch test before applying the paste to the target area.
  2. Dilute a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a teaspoon of water and raw honey. Apply the mixture to the entire face, leave for a few minutes, and then wash off.
  3. Oatmeal contains saponins that make it an extremely effective cleanser. Boil oatmeal, mix it with raw honey and apply it as a face mask. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes and then rinse off.
  4. Use a mixture of sugar and raw honey as a scrub. Avoid scrubbing your face too hard as it could aggravate the acne and even leave a scar.
  5. Studies have shown that 5% tea tree oil can reduce mild to moderate acne. Two to three drops of diluted tea tree oil mixed with raw honey can be massaged on the affected area and washed off after a while. Before using this mixture, ensure that you are not allergic to tea tree oil.
